About the event

Calling all psychonauts, Bicycle Day is soon upon us! Join us on April 19th for a bike ride from Prospect Park to Fort Green Park followed by a picnic and park activities! This is a casual event - you're welcome to come and go as you please. See below for the full itinerary and a little history on Bicycle Day.

We will meet at Grand Army Plaza under the archway at 5pm. The bike ride will begin at 5:15pm with a lap or two around Prospect Park. Then, we will make our way to Fort Greene Park.

We plan to arrive at Fort Green Park Tennis Courts at 6pm. We will walk together to find a spot to set up our blankets and snacks.

At 6:30pm, our wonderful community member, Shash, will be facilitating a Psychedelic 3rd Place conversation and group hang for those who’d like to participate. We will continue to snack, gather, and rejoice until 9pm.

A little history on Bicycle Day: On April 19, 1943, Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann intentionally ingested 0.25 milligrams of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). Less than one hour later, Hofmann experienced sudden and intense changes in perception. He asked his laboratory assistant, Susi Ramstein (the first woman to take LSD), to escort him home by bicycle. On the way, Hofmann's condition rapidly deteriorated as he struggled with alternating feelings of anxiety, that he was going insane, and that the LSD had poisoned him. Soon after, his terror began to give way to a sense of good fortune and enjoyment. Thus marking the most notable bike ride in history. The observance was first celebrated in DeKalb, Illinois in 1985 and, over the years, grew into a widely celebrated event.

We can't wait to celebrate with you! 🚴‍♂️
