About the event
Tobacco is one of the most respected sacred plants among Indigenous peoples of the
Americas. In many traditions, it is prepared as rapé (also known in the US as hapé): a
fine powder made from tobacco leaves and the ashes of medicinal trees. Far beyond a
substance, rapé is a spiritual technology, a way to pray and to foster bonds of kinship
and respect with the natural world.
